Published!

Succumbing to the insistence of my dear well-wishers and pushers, I sent along a little something to Deccan Herald, and it has been published in today's edition (Nov 25th, 2006), in their "Right in the Middle" section.

They haven't edited anything except for the very last line, which they have modified to mean the exact opposite of what I wrote originally!

You can read it online here.

Congrats Shruthi! Very nice nostalgic article... almost saw the whole thing (Bin B&W ;-) ) I sure am curious about what was the original last line - hope you can share it with us here :-) In any case I'm sure this will be the first among many more... best wishes for the same!

correction: Bin B&W = In B&W

very nice piece shruthi.
me too curious to read what was the original last line.
to say it in cricketing terms, the ‘middle’ order has been strengthened.

I read it... I read it...as usual, I did not check out the author :P!

Whoa...Congratulations....

And yes, these editors have a habit of twisting lines around and making it the exact opposite of what you meant. Has happened to me too... :O

Grammar alert: What does "except opposite" mean?

Shruthi,

The style of writing said it all. It was obvious to the eye. Good narrative. Keep it up!

So Shruthi, what was the original last line?

Shruthi said...

Thanks a lot, everybody!

The original last line was something to the effect of "We set out to enjoy the adventure of flying, but it turned out to be double the fun and adventure because of these other thrills".

Bellur, middle order strengthened indeed - good one ;)

Ano, Chitra, yay, so people do read Middles! ;)

Viky, Since you are the one who gave the alert, I think you should tell me what is wrong with it too ;)

The way you have written; I can picture the whole story in my mind. Well, I have to tell you this. I could relate my first trip to the US with the last line in the article! Am sorry its not your's...;)

Anon, how dumb could I get? I hadn't realized I had written "except opposite".. and didn't even notice when Viky pointed it out....thanks!! :)

Sigma, Surya, Thanks! :)

Bhargav, ha ha :) Actually that last line does make sense - it happens that way - just that it was not what happened in my case ;)
