Playing only to learn?

What's with toys and games nowadays?  All of them come labelled with what benefits can be derived by playing with them.  Develops visual-spatial skills, increases left-brain performance, fine-tunes hand-mind coordination, enables pincer grip in readiness for writing in school, enhances counting and strategic skills....

Hello, what happened to playing for fun?

Well, how else could the toy manufacturers justify the prices? :) Labelling them "educational" whether they are or not is a way of making money while keeping the parents happy that their money is going on "education). Luckily kids play with what they like and what strikes their fancy, and never mind the touted benefits of the expensive toys!
