Wow!

Did you see the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics? Truly spectacular, stunning, and spellbinding. I watched it live, and actually applauded when the torch lit up.

Thanks are due specially to Puttachi, who amused herself with a bowl, a spoon, and some blocks, allowing me to watch one of my favourite shows, one that comes only once every four years. It also helped that she was quite taken with Jingjing, the Panda mascot. (She is crazy about Pandas now).

Imagine the kind of hard work that has gone into this whole show! It made me feel very sad too, at times. If China can do it, can't we do it too?

I was clapping too when they lit the torch. Managed to see only the end part as I came in late from work.

Loved the way the man was pretending to be running but was actually flying in the air.

Truly speaking, though we Indians word hard, Chinese SLOG and their economy and infrastructure much better.

I would first want India to win medals by habit, not by chance. Then, there is infrastructure. I cant imagine any Indian city in its current state which can host Olympics. The only possibility I can think of is India to construct a new city from nowhere to host the Olympics - even this I cant imagine. Ya, the actual problem is about imagining that we can do, the rest comes later ;).

No we cannot do something like this! we are too absorbed by caste/religion/bribery and such rubbish to do anything productive!

Yes! We too will be in a position to host olympics when sport in our coutry is delinked from politics / politicians.

To give only two examples: Priyaranjan Dasmunshi is heading the football association since 1980s. Suresh Kalmadi is at the helm of affairs of the IOA for major part of the last two decades. Same is the case with Archery association.

I don't see this changing in our lifetime without a call for a national awakening.

Probably, this is how societies evolve!

Could not watch it completley but felt ashamed of the fact that where are we guys standing????? They did the ceremony so good and are on top of the list grabbing all the medals. The ladies representing India did not even have pride of wearing saree.... what else can we expect from them??? :-(

The opening ceremony was truly a treat to watch.. it was like a 3 hour movie in itself with breathtaking visuals.. China has set a benchmark now for the forthcoming ceremonies.
Was a ceremony not to be missed.
