The One Movie

Lots of things happening.... and I am scrambling for time to blog.... all those thoughts in my head are not finding an outlet and that is driving me crazy!

Meanwhile, here is something I always wanted to ask you all...

If somebody told you that you are allowed to watch just one more movie in your life. Just one. Which movie would you suggest to that person?

If somebody told you that he/she is allowed to watch just one more movie in his/her life. Just one. Which movie would you recommend to that person?

I have many favourites... but right now, I can confidently say - "The Shawshank Redemption". For the pure thrill, ecstasy, agony, excitement, horror, pity, revulsion, exhilaration, disbelief, joy - and for the superb ending.

Which is your One Favourite Movie? Do let me know. Any language is okay. You can take it up as a tag, or leave your choice in the comments section.

I am waiting!

Wow... Interesting post! I would like to watch Mr and Mrs Iyer :)

That would probably also be my choice of "one last book to read" - I think Stephen King simply outdid himself on that brilliant novella. :)

PS. Along with pure thrill, ecstasy, agony and so on, dont forget "hope" - because that is very much on the cards too! :) Wasnt Tim Robbins just perfect as Andy Dufresne?

Oh there are so many... but if it were the last movie I'd ever watch, then it would have to be 'It's a wonderful life' for the sheer goodness of it...

I too would love to see "Shawshank Redemption" as THE 1 MOVIE. It is just too good to watch any given day...and it will be too wonderful to finish with this movie....as it would leave you with loads of hope :)

The irony is that you cannot pick the one last movie you want to watch unless you have already watched it and loved it tremendously. Right?

I am still sort of undecided if its 'Shawshank Redemption' or 'Annie Hall'...I have never got tired of watching these movies umpteen number of times, especially a few scenes in both the movies are worthy of infinite reruns. May be I would pick 'Annie Hall' I think.

As far as recommending a movie to a friend, I would never ever strongly suggest a movie to someone unless I know them as well as their cinematic preferences very well.

Oh. My. God.

How did you pick my favorite too so effortlessly?? :-))

My vote has ALWAYS been for Shawshank Redemption. I'm known to recommend only this movie to everyone that people have now stopped asking me!

"Beautiful Mind"... my favorite

Tough to pick -- The Matrix would be my choice. The perfect blend of religion, philosophy, computer science and kickass action.

erm...
Methinks it would probably be 'sound of music'...
But then again... is this the last movie... as in last movie then you are gone...?
or last movie and then no more movies for you?
if it is the former then perhaps... just perhaps... Fight Club... i just love the airplane scene... ;)

My suggestion would be "Roman Holiday". Romance, comedy, hope and grandeur. And then there's the last scene panning away from Gregory Peck.

I assume the post is about recommending you one last movie which you can watch, not personal favorites. I recommend "Bangaarada Manushya" (kannada). I like the movie for its balance and its unforgettable ending.

P.S: Being an Indian, I really cant imagine watching a movie which has no songs in it as my last movie ever!

Due to my lack of knowledge on blogging I don't know how to do tagging :(. My last movie would be

50 FIRST DATES

My eyes are moist even thinking about it. It's hard to find ppl who love you from core of there heart....

what a difficult questions that is!

i would say Lock Stock and Two Smoking barrels. I LOVE the wicked and twisted story lines and how they all meet flawlessly by the end! :)

but then again Terminal (i liked Tom hanks better in this than Forrest Gump)Chicago and Usual Suspects are VERY close seconds!

and yes Shawshank Redemption is just too awesome!! :)

no wonder is a part of IMDB's greatest!

cheers!

I read the question differently. If a person can see only one and never again, he is better off watching a horrendous one so that "watching movies" will never haunt him again.

I'd suggest "maine pyaar kiya" then
:-) None can top salman's pathetic performance in that one.

I'd chose "Dil Chahta Hai"... simply because I had a lot of fun watching that movie, and I am reminded of that super experience when I watch it again.

Or should I chose "Cliffhanger"?! For the simple thrills that provided! Or will I chose "Matrix Part I"?

Or should I chose "Sathya Harischandra" movie in Kannada?!

I am clueless. Probably I will go with "Cliffhanger" and get excited about all the adventures that is available!

Shawshank Redemption is not quite at the top of my list. The reason I wouldn't recommend Shawshank is because here's a man who has clearly been wronged - it's almost as if the story is built by accident. I'd rather like to have a stronger character in my one-last-movie to see how a strong character reacts to life.

Back to your question: I'm struggling to choose between Kagaz ke Phool and The Man Who Would Be King (Sean Connery / Michael Caine). I think I'd go with the latter.. at least today :-)

Great post!
