Dr.Swami has sketched the pictures himself. I am visually challenged, as in I find it difficult to translate the sketches to actual plants that we see around us.

Do you know of a book that lists out the common plants with photographs?parijatahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17766691048085485541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11795715.post-61861838964656242972012-03-25T21:50:25.652-07:002012-03-25T21:50:25.652-07:00Austere, thanks!

Rain tree is also called Acacia, (http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Rain%20Tree.html) as evinced from many links online. But you are right, there are too many acacias and so it might be misleading. I am removing it from the brackets.Shruthihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00635222842257175541noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11795715.post-75224480856022990262012-03-25T21:38:25.324-07:002012-03-25T21:38:25.324-07:00I guess this would be Albizia (http://en.wikipedia...I guess this would be Albizia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albizia_saman) and not Acacia.

The Acacia we most commonly find in south India is : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acacia_auriculiformis which is a plant of choice for reforestation in western ghats.
Hope it helps.

If you read Kannada, do get a copy of BGL Swamy's 'Hasiru Honnu'. It is an interesting, funny and resourceful book on common south Indian plants.
-AnonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11795715.post-11681882358315519682012-03-24T09:30:35.947-07:002012-03-24T09:30:35.947-07:00Superb!
